RE: Thoughts on 2 weeks of RV'ing in New Zealand

joshjack, we felt we would be less restricted by using a car over a RV. we just got in and went. we didn't have to fill water tanks, empty tanks, pickup at campsite, buy food/supplies and etc... sooner schooner, i agree about our great country. and we have spent a great deal of time seeing it. but i believe Americans who don't ever travel outside the U.S., especially teenagers, are missing a lot. i believe that the image of the "Ugly American" is the result of Americans traveling and expecting everything to be "American-like". i've traveled in Europe, Mexico, Canada, the South Pacific and the Caribbean. in almost every place, i found that nearly all loved Americans and America. what they didn't like were Americans that expected people in other countries to speak english, serve American food, have American TV shows and cater to their every whim. i've seen this behavior many times and felt ashamed. that said, i've also seen citizens from other countries acting the same. i feel that traveling abroad and meeting the real people of that particular country, is an enriching and educational experience. the result is a deeper and richer appreciation for our country, the U.S.A. you will come back, no longer taking for granted the freedoms and plenty that being an American provides. and you'll understand why so many people continue to dream of living in America. bikendan - Well said! Wow, my husband and I have been to New Zealand a number of times, the latest being November 2007 (golf trip with 4 sets of golf clubs) and have never had a problem with crime or people being anti-Americans. We have toured NZ by RV and car both work great I guess it all depends on your agenda and timeframe. As I have mentioned in previous posts, we fell in love with NZ (people, beauty, climate, golf, etc.) we purchased a house on the North island and plan to spend our winters there upon retirement. France is where I encountered a bad experience. Someone decided to toss their beverage from a car onto my backside while I was standing on a street corner. I still can't figure out how they knew I was an American. Good luck on future foreign travels! Happy RVing! Susan

RE: Vehicle storage in Las Vegas?

Oasis RV Resort has a storage lot that is fenced; they have round the clock security. They are located just south of the strip just off highway 15 on Windmill. Good Luck and Happy RVing! Susan

RE: What to use on Windshield?

To clean the windshield and front of the coach, we use a dryer sheet (Bounce or equivalent) dipped in water. Before we use the RV, I put a coat or two of Rain-X on the windshield, it helps with removing the bugs. Happy RVing! Susan

RE: Weber Q BBQ and propane

Weber Q grill update - I called Weber's customer service number and told them about my continued problems with the grill. Since my grill was under warranty, they sent me a new regulator and adapter hose free of charge. We replaced the regulator and adapter and tested with no problem. Happy Grilling! Susan

RE: How many giving up Snowbirding this year?

We're not giving up; we're start getting started. This will be our third year. First year we spent in Texas, second year in Nevada for two months and Arizona for three months. This year we are going to Florida. All the reservations are done. The day after Thanksgiving we will begin the journey to Florida. (Weather permitting) Happy RVing! Susan

RE: New Zealand and Australia

Yes, my husband and I have rv'd in New Zealand two times and have been there 8 times. We fell in love with New Zealand; we purchased a house in North Island about 5 years ago. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding your upcoming trip. We didn't try the Melbourne to Auckland trip. We are waiting for the tunnel! Send me a PM (private message) with your phone number if you would like to talk in more detail. Happy RVing! Susan

RE: Packers game in Nov.

Go to www.packers.com and click on game day then parking. You will find info on parking or, you can call 1-800-895-0071. There is a business that lets you park in their lot for a fee (approx. $75 pre season game) but I don't recall the name. If you call the number above I believe they will give you that info. There is a lot you can park RVs in that is close to Lambeau field but there is no overnight parking. My husband and I went to a game a couple of weeks ago and stayed in Shawano which is about 45 minutes to the west of Green Bay. It won't work for you if you don't have a toad. Go Pack Go! Happy RVing! Susan

RE: first florida winter

Triker33, where did you get that pricing information? I like that price compared to the price we are going to pay. We were in Florida last month to make our winter arrangements and stopped in at Bluewater Key. We were told they only rent on a daily basis during the winter months and didn't have a monthly rate. The daily rate for offwater is $118, canal $128 and waterfront is $138 and with the owner's association the rate is much higher, $150 for waterfront. Boyd's was the only RV park in the Keys that quoted us a monthly rate. We didn't stop at all the RV parks in the Keys but most of the ones we fit in. It is very expensive in the Keys and other parts of Florida compared to Texas and Arizona. FYI - Outdoors Resorts in Port St. Lucie is offering 4 day/3 night FREE vacation certificate it expires 4/30/09 Happy RVing! Susan

RE: Weber Q BBQ and propane

We had same experience with a Weber Q grill using a 20# propane tank. Spoke to Weber and was told to ssslllooowwwllyy turn on the valve for 2-3 minutes. I didn't read that one in the manual. Tried that way a few times but it didn't always work. Now I turn the valve on (not slowly) 15 or so minutes before I light it and have had no problems. Happy Grilling and RVing! Susan

RE: Campground near Texarkana(Tx side preferably)

In 2007, on our way back to Wisconsin we stayed at a KOA in Texarkana, just off I-30 next to the state line, for one night. It was a nice clean rv park. Happy RVing! Susan

RE: Good RV grill ?

I have a Weber Q grill and bought it at www.cooking.com. When I hooked up the 20# propane tank, I experienced a problem with the grill not heating up. Called Weber and was told to slowly turn the tank on for 2-3 minutes. Did this for a while, sometimes it would heat up and other times it didn't. Now we turn the tank on 15 minutes or so before I use the grill and have had no problems. The only thing I don't like about the grill is not being able to cook with indirect heat. With the smaller grills I'm not sure this would be an option. I have grilled a 10-pound turkey with no problems. Good luck with your grill choice and Happy RVing! Susan

RE: Bruschetta

Bruschetta ingredients that I have used are garlic, extra-virgin olive oil, tomatoes, basil and/or oregano, salt and pepper. You could put the tomato mixture on the grilled bread and top with mozzarella and broil for a few seconds. For the bread, I like to thinly slice ciabatta or focaccia bread (any baguette bread will work) coat lightly with olive oil, salt and pepper and grill. Yum! Happy Cooking and RVing! Susan

RE: Washing Machine Detergent

I use liquid Tide HE with Downy fabric softener. The manual states to only use a couple of tablespoons. Happy RVing! Susan

RE: Travel Supreme

Lee, In the RV Net search box, type US signature map and click on the only suggestion. This will bring you to a forum then click on the underlined US signature map. Last year we met someone who had an all electric TS; he had a lot of problems with the coach. Our TS is not all electric. Happy RVing! Susan

RE: Campgrounds near Las Vegas???

We stayed at Oasis October-December 2007 and there is free shuttle service to Silverston and SouthPoint. Shuttle service is offered to the strip for a fee. Happy RVing! Susan

RE: Sewer hose not allowed to touch the ground in Arizona

We are currently staying at Desert's Edge in Phoenix and the rules state Maricopa County Environmental Services requires that extended-stay guests keep their sewer hoses off the ground. We were in Lake Havasu for a month and didn't have a problem with the hose on the ground. Happy RVing! Susan

RE: Camping in Vegas

We stayed at Oasis for two months (mid-October to mid-December 2007). You get one night free after one month stay. In December, free shuttle service was offered from Oasis to Silverton. You can walk but not recommended. Also, there is free shuttle service to South Point which is south of Oasis. The shuttle service for a fee to the strip was okay but I wouldn't recommend it. It took about 45 minutes to get to the strip and on the return, we waited for an hour to get picked up Caesar's and had to transfer at Mandalay where we waited for another 45 minutes for the shuttle back to Oasis and it wasn't a busy night. The shuttle does take you to various locations grocery store, outlet mall, the Strip, etc. but you need to transfer shuttles at Mandalay if you want to go north on the strip. There is plenty to do in Las Vegas you just need to find the right tour group, etc. Good Luck with your decision. Happy RVing! Susan

RE: Owatonna Mn. Cabelas stop?

Yes, there is a weight restriction on I35W just north of 494 through downtown St. Paul until you reach I94 and the speed limit is only 45 mph through that area. We drove our RV (40') through there last summer and saw the weight restriction sign but couldn't do anything about it. We didn't get pulled over but I am not sure there was a PO in the area. I think the sign read 9,000 pounds but I'm not sure. I also tried to find out more information on MNDOT's website to no avail. It's interesting on mapquest there wasn't any mention of the weight restriction. Of course, it doesn't know what vehicle you are driving. I use mapquest for most of our RV trips with good luck but it would be nice if you could select the type of vehicle you are driving and have your trip mapped out accordingly. Good Luck and Happy RVing! Susan

RE: Things to do with Shrimp !

One of my favorite shrimp dishes is: Frogmore Stew or Low Country Boil. Corn on cob, cut in half (frozen can be used if fresh is not available) Sausage (I prefer spicy), cut in half or thirds Shrimp with shell New Potatoes Old Bay Seasoning In a large pot bring water and Old Bay Seasoning to a boil. Cook sausage for 5 minutes, boil gently. Add corn and cook for 5 minutes. Add shrimp and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, depending on size of the shrimp. This is pure finger food. Enjoy! Happy RVing! Susan

RE: Remove Hard Water Spots

Thanks for all of your comments/suggestions. I used Jet Dry on a cloth and rinsed with water and followed it up with The Solution (it's a waterless RV/Car spray and protectant). I am happy with the results. Susan
